Common mistakes (Hindi speakers)
हिंदी बोलै वालासभक लेल — गलती सँ बचू
- मैं ठीक हूँ→हम नीक छी
Maithili uses humble plural हम for “I” and छी (not हूँ) for present state.
- आप कैसे हैं?→अहाँ केहन छी?
अहाँ replaces Hindi आप; केना/कीने replaces कैसे in most of Mithila.
- मेरा नाम राम है→हमर नाम राम अछि
Possessive is हमर (not मेरा); copula is अछि (not है).
- कहाँ जा रहे हैं?→कतए जा रहल छी?
कतए/कतय for “where”; progressive uses रहल छी not जा रहे हैं.
- माफ़ कीजिए→माफ करी / क्षमा करू
Hindi polite imperative -कीजिए is replaced by simpler Maithili forms.

Darbhanga
प्रणाम is universal; younger speakers in town also say नमस्कार.

Madhubani
जय सीताराम is a common traditional greeting, especially among elders.
उदाहरण: जय सीताराम! भेट कए नीक लागल।
Nepal / Janakpur
Nepali-influenced areas may mix नमस्ते with Maithili प्रणाम.
उदाहरण: नमस्ते — acceptable, but प्रणाम sounds more locally rooted.
